Cuiping You
Academic Visitor
I am Cuiping You from China. I joined the Manchester Rare Conditions Centre in January 2026. I’ll be here for a one-year research visit, supported by the China Scholarship Council. My research interests lie in genetics and neurodevelopmental disorders, and I have been very fortunate to be supervised by Prof. Sid Banka and Dr. Paul Kasher, both world-renowned geneticists and researchers who have guided and supported me in every aspect of my academic life.
During my time here, with the invaluable help of Dr Kasher and my laboratory colleagues, I have successfully mastered the techniques of zebrafish microinjection and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. These skills have become a cornerstone for my ongoing research.
I have made it a point to attend almost every laboratory group meeting. Additionally, I have actively participated in multiple academic conferences and seminars during my stay, which have greatly enriched my understanding of cutting-edge research in genetics.
Currently, I am conducting a survey and data collation on human snRNAs. It is now known that mutations in many snRNAs can cause severe neurodevelopmental disorders, making this both a fascinating and highly meaningful area of research. I believe this work will greatly benefit the studies I plan to pursue in the future.
In a nutshell, this visiting experience has been a truly unique opportunity to work alongside world-leading geneticists and researchers. It holds profound significance for my future career and life, and I am deeply grateful to Prof. Siddharth Banka, Dr Paul Kasher, and all my colleagues in the laboratory for their friendship and assistance. Looking ahead, I am committed to building on this foundation to further my research in genetics and neurodevelopmental disorders.
