
Thomas Smith
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Thomas is a Postdoctoral Research Associate under the supervision of Prof. William Newman and Prof. Ray O’Keefe. His research is funded by the MRC and focuses on “How molecular and cellular changes in mitochondrial translation cause hearing loss”. He recently completed his PhD in the same laboratory, which was funded by RNID and the Masonic Charitable Foundation. His work utilises functional analyses to investigate genetic variants associated with the rare condition Perrault syndrome, which is characterised by sensorineural hearing loss and primary ovarian insufficiency.
