Title: Evaluation of Narrative Therapy-Based Interdisciplinary Supervision for Genetic Healthcare Professionals: An Explanatory Sequential Mixed-Methods Study
Speaker Bio: Dr Lucinda Freeman is a genetic counsellor and Head of Discipline, Genetic Counselling in the School of Clinical and Health Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney. She leads the Master of Genetic Counselling program and is actively involved in genetic counselling education, workforce development, and genomics implementation research. Her work focuses on preparing the future genomics workforce, improving access to genomic healthcare, and supporting the integration of genetics and genomics across healthcare settings.
Abstract: Supervision is fundamental to developing professional identity, reflective capacity, and resilience. Although associated with quality and accountability standards, supervision is not systematically embedded across genetic healthcare professions. Narrative therapy offers a structured and reflexive framework for exploring practice challenges and professional identity within group supervision, however, its use in interdisciplinary genomic healthcare settings has not previously been examined. This study aimed to examine the acceptability, perceived impact, and implementation of narrative therapy–based interdisciplinary supervision in Australasian genetic healthcare.
